Name
- (Nickname) Musashi Province
Etymology
Hyōgaiji spelling variant of the modern form ぶしゅう【武州】 bushuu, a nickname given to the Musashi Province. The word is coined off the first syllable of むさしのくに【武蔵国】 musashi no kuni "Musashi Province". The kanji 【武】 then acquires the Sino-Japanese pronunciation ぶ bu due to being suffixed with the Sino-Japanese word しゅう【州】 shuu "province".

Historically, the Musashi Province encompassed the modern prefectures of Tokyo and Saitama, as well as a part of Kanagawa.
