Cognate with Amami (Uken: Ashiken) うまート umaat; and Okinawan うまち umachi "fire". Possibly from うみち umichi "three [stones used for cooking over a hearth]" (compare うみちむん umichimun "god of fire"), with a vowel shift by influence with the similar term うまちー【御祭】 umachii "harvest festival".
